Founded in 1858, Keio University is Japan's oldest private comprehensive research university. Keio has 6 major campuses across the greater Tokyo area with 14 graduate schools, 10 undergraduate faculties, and a university hospital.
Japan’s Top Global University Project
In 2014, Keio was selected as one of the 13 Top Type (Type A) universities for the Japanese government's Top Global University Project, receiving funding to enhance the international competitiveness of Japanese universities.
Study opportunities with peers from all across the globe
In 2018, Keio had a total of 1,908 international students from over 70 countries, which included those who enrolled in the Student Exchange Program and the Japanese Language Program, as well as short-term and research programs. Keio offers more than 800 courses conducted in English, 29 double degree programs, and 24 degree programs.
Global partnerships
Keio has over 300 international partners with which it actively engages in both educational and research collaborations. The university is a member of many international university associations, such as the Global University Leaders Forum at the World Economic Forum and the Association of Pacific Rim Universities.
Alumni network
Keio has a strong alumni network, and there are many prominent Keio alumni in all corners of society, particularly in the business sector. Keio has the greatest number of graduates who have become CEOs of companies listed in the first section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, and was ranked 9th in the world in the Times Higher Education Alma Mater Index: Global Executives 2013 (the last year the ranking was compiled). The university has also produced 3 prime ministers and 2 astronauts.
