Call for Opportunity Grant 2021 with Japan

The Call for Opportunity Grant 2021 for research projects between Switzerland and Japan is currently open. The opportunity grants support bottom-up initiatives of researchers from Swiss universities, universities of applied sciences, universities of teacher education, and public research institutes, linked to specific events or incidents in Japan.

These research-based initiatives aim at increasing the visibility of Swiss science, technology and innovation abroad. The events or incidents can be large public happenings (e.g. Olympic Games, international or national exhibitions/biennales), major environmental events (e.g. implications of a typhoon, earthquake or tsunami), major economic or political developments (e.g. shift of power in a government), or the launch of a new policy (e.g. new impactful agriculture policy). Applications will be accepted until July 18, 2021.

Eligibility: postdoctoral scientists, senior scientists and professors of Swiss federal and cantonal universities, universities of applied sciences, universities of teacher education, as well as public research institutes, are eligible to apply. Researchers of all nationalities are eligible to apply as main applicant.
Research fields: the call is open to all scientific disciplines including social sciences and the humanities.
Funding: max. 50’000 CHF
Duration: up to 12 months
Deadline: July 18, 2021

COVID-19: this call aims for research projects starting in January 2022 at the earliest.

The call is announced by the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH Zurich) as the Leading House for collaboration with Asia in the framework of the Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation’s (SERI) bilateral programmes, and is open for scientists in Switzerland and collaborators in Japan, China (incl. Hong Kong and Taiwan), South Korea and the ASEAN member states.
