1st Japan-Germany-Switzerland Workshop for Enzyme Technology and Bioprocess Development

On September 10th – 12th the first Japan-Germany-Switzerland Workshop for the Enzyme Technology took place in Toyama, Japan. Building on the history of exchange on these topics between Japan and Switzerland in the field of bioprocess development for 30 years and that between Germany in the area of enzyme technology for 40 years, the newly evolved integrated workshop attracted approximately 70 participants from academia and industry for in-depth discussions.
From Switzerland, researchers from ETH Zürich, University of Basel, ZHAW Zurich University of Applied Sciences and University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Western Switzerland attended to share their input and research results. The workshop focused on topics including enzyme technology, screening for enzymes and directed evolution, protein engineering and in-silico design, bioprocess development for fine chemical production and medical biotechnology. Ms. Kyoko Suzuki, Head a.i. of the Science and Technology Office Tokyo, Embassy of Switzerland in Japan joined the opening session in support of the multilateral academic exchange involving industry.
