A waste disposal facility in Musashino, Tokyo, is hosting a special event on selected days from December to February in which participants can watch how garbage is processed while also enjoying food and drinks.
The event will include a tour of the facility, named the Musashino Clean Center.
“I hope the participants will think about what it is to be eco-friendly while enjoying their drinks,” one of the event’s organizers said.
The Musashino Clean Center has a pit where a crane is constantly operated to even out flammable waste that has been collected throughout the city, before it is burned.
A bar will be set up in a glass-walled observation area next to the pit. The operators of a brewery and a shared-use kitchen in Musashino will provide food and drinks, including craft beer, snacks and other items for ¥500. Soft drinks will be available for ¥200 to ¥300.
Visitors can watch the crane operate while sitting at wooden tables and having a drink and snacks.
The waste disposal center is open to visitors who wish to observe the facility at other times as well. The city’s tourism organization and others have planned the special event to attract more people, as part of efforts to make the facility into a tourist spot.
The bar will be open on five days: Dec. 14, Dec. 15, Jan. 18, Jan. 19 and Feb. 2. Twenty people aged 20 or older can join each two-hour event, with one hour of bar time and another hour for looking around the facility. Advance reservations are required. Speech
